In-Depth Look at Captain Tsubasa Rivals

Captain Tsubasa Rivals is a soon-to-launch blockchain-based game inspired by the manga series Captain Tsubasa. This manga series was first serialized in 1981 by publisher Shueisha in the manga anthology Weekly Shonen Jump. Since then, Captain Tsubasa has gained notoriety for influencing soccer players and enthusiasts in Japan and worldwide.

The gameplay of Captain Tsubasa Rivals is pretty straightforward. Players can train the original soccer players who starred in the original Captain Tsubasa comics and compete against other players’ teams in player-versus-player (PvP) mode. The game’s main feature is that players can collect items through matches with other players. Then, they can exchange the items for rewards such as new lead and support characters.

Captain Tsubasa Rivals differs from traditional smartphone games because its characters are generative NFTs. It means each character will carry randomly generated unique attributes and strengths so that no two characters are alike.

Players can also create a game strategy that takes into account several parameters like a character’s special moves, skills, attributes, affinities, and compatibility if they want to win in Captain Tsubasa Rivals. Nevertheless, if they’re going to seal their victory, they must train and level up their characters to develop unique generative NFTs.

Training those generative NFTs will require Tsubasauts, utility tokens that can be acquired through the original story’s player versus environment (PvE) mode. The more efficiency a card has, the more Tsubasauts it can receive.

The Tsubasauts are essential since they can be used to develop the level and parameters of a player, thus allowing a player to learn special moves and skills and create a new generative NFT by taking over two players’ characteristics. When a player creates a new NFT, he’ll get a trainable random rarity.

Incidentally, Captain Tsubasa Rivals has a unique feature—an in-game marketplace where players can buy and sell characters.

“Being a part of a game using new technologies, such as the blockchain and NFTs, is something new. Although the game is still in the works, I have high expectations for the experience it will bring for players. I hope that everyone will be able to enjoy this new game,” said Yoichi Takahashi, author of Captain Tsubasa.

“The inspiration [for] this game was the feeling of wanting to play blockchain games with my favorite IP and characters. I am humble[d] to take this exciting challenge to create new game experiences together with everyone,” said Shun Fujiyoshi, Captain Tsubasa Rivals’ producer.

Making the game even more exciting is its soundtrack featuring music composed by Shinichi Osawa (also known as Mondo Grosso), a leading music producer in the Japanese club scene.

“Of the many ways to use music, I believe its affinity with games is especially profound. Particularly in this project, taking multiple approaches to a single song in stems and enjoying the wonder of the combinations was a groundbreaking concept,” said Osawa.

Captain Tsubasa Rivals is expected to launch by the end of 2022.
