The ApeCoin DAO has filed three proposals that are going up for a vote within the Ape community evening of September 23, mainly covering funding-related initiatives.
The ApeCoin DAO has filed three proposals to the Ape community, which are going up for a vote at 9 PM ET, September 23. According to ApeCoin’s official Twitter account, community members have until 9 PM on Wednesday, September 28, to vote on all proposals.
These proposals are mostly funding-related; thus, a unanimous vote is expected as this could mean great things for the Ape community. ApeCoin DAO launched community-led governance through a formal proposal process based on the one implemented and proven out over time by Ethereum’s EIP—Ethereum Improvement Proposals—system.
Aptly called APE Improvement Proposal (AIP), a proposal from the ApeCoin DAO can fall under one of these categories: Core (with subcategories Brand Decision and Ecosystem Fund Allocation), Process, or Informational. The three proposals filed by the ApeCoin DAO are AIP-88, AIP-91, and AIP-96, respectively.
ApeCoin DAO’s AIPs
As per ApeCoin’s tweet, ApeCoin DAO’s first proposal, AIP-88, proposes creating a launchpad to bring ApeCoin NFT project ideas to life. Such would involve integrating $APE with NiftyKit, a no-code, self-serve smart contract platform for launching and managing NFT projects.
According to the proposal, deeply integrating $APE with NiftyKit would unlock accessibility for the next generation of NFT creators, seeing as how anyone can launch a project on the platform in minutes. The same would also open new utility levels for ApeCoin; thus, it becomes the creator community’s foundational coin. The ApeCoin DAO likewise dangles the possibility of creators earning $APE revenue through NiftyKit.
The second proposal, AIP-91, falls under the Core category, particularly its Ecosystem Fund Allocation subcategory. ApeCoin DAO’s AIP-91 proposes the creation of a platform to connect talent within the Ape community.
Per AIP-91, being a member of the Ape community means belonging to one of the most substantial communities in the Web3 space. The Ape community comprises the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC), Bored Ape Kennel Club (BAKC) NFT holders, and ApeCoin holders.
Nevertheless, in such a broad community, communicating what a member can do for the community or what the community can do for a member can be difficult. AIP-91 proposes creating a platform that facilitates the connection of talent/needs between and among BAYC, MAYC, BAKC, and ApeCoin holders.
ApeCoin DAO’s third proposal, AIP-96, seeks funding for hackathons and grant programs for people building for ApeCoin. It also falls under the Core category, specifically the Ecosystem Fund Allocation.
Per ApeCoin DAO, AIP-96 will provide $200,00 in APE to fund hackathons and grant programs for people who build for ApeCoin. The proposal states the funding will be distributed across three initiatives—the Ethereum Foundation’s ETHOnline hackathon, a dedicated Gitcoin ApeCoin ecosystems grant program and Gitcoin’s Change program.
Incidentally, a hackathon is a portmanteau of the words hacker and marathon. According to an online source, a hackathon, sometimes called a codefest, “is a social coding event that brings computer programmers and other interested people together to improve upon or build a new software program.”
ApeCoin DAO proposed AIP-96 because, according to them, participating in such initiatives will give ApeCoin more visibility. Moreover, these encourage developers to build for the Ape community. The proposed funding would also allow ApeCoin to support public goods and other communities.
Members of the Ape community are encouraged to vote positively so the ApeCoin DAO can start enacting the proposals immediately. The proposals are already on Snapshot and are just waiting for the influx of votes from the Ape community.
