Yuga Labs is onboarding Danny Greene, former MeebitsDAO general manager and Curio VP of Global Marketing, as Meebits brand lead and community liaison.
Danny Greene, MeebitsDAO general manager in charge of overseeing the popular Meebits NFT collection, is leaving his post to become Yuga Labs’ Meebits brand lead. Greene will undertake building community and utility for Meebits holders, which is practically a continuation of his former role at the DAO for the past eight months.
According to Yuga Labs, Green will also serve as a liaison for the community and take on the task of developing strategic partnerships.
A Backgrounder on the Meebits Brand Lead
Based in Santa Monica, California, Greene was previously a consultant to Activision Blizzard during the launch of “Call of Duty: Black Ops III.” He also managed integrated marketing campaigns for the Call of Duty Endowment, a 501 non-profit foundation.
He also served as managing director at a private equity fund, a social impact consulting firm, and a full-service strategic communications firm. Green started his Web3 journey in February 2021 as Vice President of Global Marketing at Curio, an NFT platform.
He left Curio to establish Luna for Good, a Web3 marketing agency. He is also an entrepreneur-in-residence at Block::Block, a creative blockchain lab that builds products at the intersection of Web3, NFTs, and DAOs. The company also happens to be MeebitsDAO’s principal sponsor.
“Over the past 15+ years, I have worked in entertainment, tech, investment management, public relations, and non-profits—primarily in marketing, communications, and strategy roles. Now, I’m all in on web3! Blockchain, crypto, and NFTs are the intersection of art/culture, technology, and finance; all of my passions and interests combined,” reads his LinkedIn bio.
During his stint as MeebitsDAO general manager, he defined the MeebitsDAO strategy, managed all communications, supervised all product development, and facilitated decentralized governance. He handled a slew of community-based projects, including the launch of Meekicks, an NFT wearable, the creation of a Meebits Snapchat augmented reality (AR) filter, and the introduction of the Meebot Mascot at NFT.NYC.
Greene’s Vision as Meebits Brand Lead
It looks like Greene’s role as Meebits brand lead will come easy for him based on his preconceived vision of the NFT project. In an interview, he said he considers Meebits “so much more” than just images.
“It’s an avatar for the immersive metaverse. It was always clear to me that Meebits were way ahead of their time and that the historic nature of them as a creation of Larva Labs, the value and utility that will be created by Yuga Labs, and the strength of the passionate Meebits community was going to make Meebits a valuable asset for the long-term,” he said.
Yuga Labs’ announcement of its new Meebits brand lead comes ahead of news that, on August 15, Meebits and CryptoPunks NFT holders will be granted intellectual property (IP) rights, allowing them to use their respective NFT arts in commercial and private projects. It would be similar to the IP rights holders of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs now have.
Greene’s addition to Yuga Labs as the new Meebits brand lead couldn’t have come at a better time. Late in July, the company teased a new utility for Meebits. And although they didn’t share the specifics, they did share their thoughts on this new development:
“Our vision for Meebits centers around embracing the currents already core to the community—play, DIY experimentation, tech minimalism, and interoperability—and dialing them way up.”
The vision could include what Greene said regarding Meebits’ integration into Yuga Labs’ Otherside Metaverse.
“But there is so much on the horizon, I can’t get into the specifics yet, but you’ll be hearing from us more soon,” Greene said.
Incidentally, Yuga Labs started charging a 5% royalty fee on Meebits’ secondary sales and 2.5% royalty on BAYC secondary sales last month.
