Decentralized virtual gaming developer The Sandbox has opened its first pop-up atelier in Hong Kong. The Sandbox Alpha 3 atelier will host upcoming seasonal events for the gaming Metaverse.
Gaming Metaverse The Sandbox has decided to cross over to the real world via a pop-up atelier in Hong Kong. The Sandbox Alpha 3 atelier is meant to support the Metaverse’s growing user base in the city. Local design studio workshops, creative content videos, and conversations focused on the Metaverse will be the focal point of the atelier.
Hong Kong residents who were there on opening day and opened an account with The Sandbox Alpha 3 atelier competed for various prizes. Prizes up for grabs were a 1×1 parcel of land on The Sandbox, an NFT house, and 1,000 $SAND tokens that were distributed daily during the promotion period.
A Closer Look into The Sandbox Alpha 3 Atelier
Some local design studios that led the Metaverse workshops included Pangu by Kenal, UFO School, Index Game, and Metalympics. The Sandbox Alpha 3 atelier made it so that the workshops would appeal to a broad audience, from school children to university students and adults to professionals leading the city’s top corporations.
The pop-up is open to all willing to participate—companies, educational institutions, and other entities. Those already participating in The Sandbox Alpha 3 atelier are the City University of Hong Kong, the Rotary Club of Elite Orient, the University of Hong Kong, and the NFT Association of Hong Kong.
According to Sebastien Borget, the COO and co-founder of The Sandbox, the new Hong Kong pop-up will allow residents of Hong Kong to explore an open Metaverse and interact with others as they explore new activities.
“With the opening of The Sandbox Alpha 3 Atelier, we are pleased to welcome an even wider group of users in Hong Kong to explore a truly open metaverse and enjoy a new range of experiences,” said Borget. He added that the pop-up’s partners will share novel ways for users to develop avatars and “interact more extensively.”
The Sandbox Alpha 3 atelier is not the gaming Metaverse’s first foray into Hong Kong. It created Mega City, which became Hong Kong’s cultural hub in the Metaverse. The Sandbox even held a “LAND” drive to enable users to stake out a part of the neighborhood they can call their own.
Recent Collaborations for The Sandbox
Although the Web3 and NFT spaces are right smack in the middle of a bear market, with most of Web3 falling on hard times for most of 2022, The Sandbox is still making waves and proving itself newsworthy.
It made headlines about a month ago when The Sandbox inked a deal with the American men’s lifestyle and entertainment magazine Playboy. The collaboration involved building the Playboy Metamansion in The Sandbox Metaverse. Holders of Playboy’s Rabbitars NFT collection would enjoy special utility, giving them access to the mansion.
Around the same time, the number one bank in South Korea, KEB Hana, revealed that it is partnering with The Sandbox to open a virtual branch in the Metaverse. The Metaverse bank would make it easier for users to buy and sell digital plots of land and provide essential banking services and investment advice.
Then, just last week, no less than the Crypto Queen, hotel heiress Paris Hilton, announced that she is building a virtual Malibu mansion in The Sandbox Metaverse. Hilton will use the mansion to host parties and events, sell NFTs, and uniquely connect with her fans.
With the launch of The Sandbox Alpha 3 atelier, the gaming Metaverse is showing no signs of slowing down. It is continuously innovating, as evident with its most recent partnerships, and it might not stop anytime soon.
