Azuki #40, Bobu Bean Farmer, will take a giant leap from the Metaverse into space when it joins NASA and SpaceX’s Crew-4 Mission to the International Space Station.
In an unprecedented move that can only be described as a giant leap for the Web3 and Metaverse in general, the Azuki NFT project announced that Azuki #40, Bobu Bean Farmer, will be going to space.
Based on a tweet today, Azuki’s official Twitter account said Bobu Bean Farmer will join “NASA and SpaceX on the Crew-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS).” The tweet further said, “Bobu will become the first NFT with private keys sent to space via Ledger.” Ledger is a global platform for digital assets and Web3.
Bobu Bean Farmer already hinted at this space exploration on April 10 with a cryptic post ending with the words “to the moon.”
The Crew-4 Mission
NASA’s website explains that the Crew-4 flight is en route to the ISS for a science expedition mission. The flight will carry NASA astronauts Robert Hines as the pilot, Kjell Lindgren as mission commander, and Jessica Watkins as a mission specialist. Samantha Cristoforetti, a European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut, will also serve as a mission specialist.
The four astronauts will fly a new Crew Dragon spacecraft, Freedom, aboard a flight-proven Falcon 9 rocket. As soon as the Crew-4 mission lands on the ISS, there will be a short handover in the space station before Crew-3 astronauts return to earth. The Crew-3 astronauts are expected to splash down off the coast of Florida.
Mission teams like the Crew-4 astronauts are sent to the ISS to continue monitoring operational timelines concerning ongoing space station activities like spacewalks and the Ax-1 crew members’ return.
A flight readiness review will be held for the crew on April 15 at the Kennedy Space Center. As for the launch date, NASA and SpaceX are targeting Saturday, April 23, at no earlier than 5:26 AM EDT. However, backup dates have also been set on Sunday, April 24, and Monday, April 25, if something happens.
Bobu Bean Farmer to the ISS
Azuki #40, Bobu Bean Farmer, will join the Crew-4 mission and simultaneously launch 2,000 Bobu tokens (~$1M) to space for 31 days. As mentioned earlier, Bobu will be the first NFT project to send private keys to space using the Ledger Nano wallet.
According to Azuki’s official Twitter account, they will be partnering with STELLAR, a student research organization from the Grand Canyon University, for this mission. STELLAR will be researching the energy output and electrical characteristics of Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) run in a microgravity environment.
In support of this humanitarian research, Bobu Bean Farmer will be donating to fund STELLAR’s future missions and research. Bobu token holders will have a say on the donation amount, set between Ξ 2 to Ξ 8 from the Boby treasury.
Voting will start on April 15 at 1 PM PST, while the proposal will take place on Snapshot and run through April 20.
